Again, I recall the twist that James Kidd was actually a woman in disguise taking place way later than this, but I can only assume that’s purely because I did so much side content.
What surprises me most about playing Black Flag is that despite how rudimentary the stealth systems are in this era of Assassin’s Creed, especially after the social stealth from the first game was completely jettisoned, these are still largely competent stealth level designs underneath it all. The systems might not fully support the vision here, but the core concept is fully fleshed out in the ways these missions are composed.
It’s not the best stealth I’ve ever played, but it’s far better than I remember and far better than it should be given what it was working with. And next week, we’ll probably have even more sneaking to do.
