Disco Elysium – Part 4-1

We’ve woken up on Day 2 feeling far more alert and capable than we did at the start of our investigation. Guess it took a whole day for us to sober up and get our shit together.

As it turns out, save files in Disco Elysium are just unencrypted JSON objects, so it is a simple enough task to disable Steam Cloud saves, open their directory, and modify them in Notepad++ or an equivalent word processor. Plenty of people have videos on how to do it, but you can use this one if you’re interesting it doing it for your Disco Elysium run.

On one hand, this is cutting us off of a lot of the cool and interesting fail states that the game would otherwise throw our way. On the other hand, this means that we’re far less likely to run into scenarios where we’re terrified to do something for risk of killing ourselves over and over again. It will give us more time to admire and discuss the game’s writing and story, which is what we’re actually here for.

For example, with our improved Motion, we’re able to conduct a full autopsy and discover the bullet lodged with the victim’s skull, completing a secret objective. Hearing Andre’s shock that there are tasks that aren’t on our to-do list, that can nonetheless still be completed for experience, was more than worth cheating ourselves out of some potentially hilarious fail states.

Especially since success can be just as funny if not moreso.
