Mafia: The Old Country – Part 1-1
We’ve spent all the time traveling to the past to catch monkeys in Ape Escape, but why not engage in some historical tourism. Specifically, 1900s Sicily in Mafia: The Old Country. Andre Doucet will even join us for it.

As I mentioned at the start of this, Mafia the Old Country managed to sneak its way onto my Highlights of 2025 list. I freely confess that originality isn’t one of this game’s virtues. It is taking liberally from mafia and crime fiction, lifting its story beats and plot points from the genre classics even as it goes back to the roots of the organization. I would not call this call innovative in the least. But it’s not trying to be, nor does it need to be.
That’s because the execution of that vision, making something akin to a playable Mafia movie, is almost flawless. The developers at Hangar 13 were laser-focused on making sure every element of the game supports that design ethos, crafting a very lean, immaculate experience.
It’s something I think is worth highlighting, and I know Andre agrees with me, so I’m glad I brought him on for this one.
