We’re back from the war, and our family has a debt that we can’t reasonably pay… unless we’re willing to dirty our hands.

The setpiece where we need to work and ordinary job my loading crates onto a truck is, unironically, a fantastic use of the medium to tell the story. Rather than try to tell us what drives Vito into the life of organized crime, we are playing through his motivation in real time. We see how tedious and boring an average job is compared to jacking a car or stealing high-valued cargo, and for a significantly lower payday to boot.
Whether or not we leave immediately, or whether or not we stick around until Vito tolerance for the job completely gives way, the outcome is the same. Now that we’ve had a taste of fast, easy money, the doldrums of the working stiff just aren’t going to be enough for him. Vito simply doesn’t have the patience for it.
They don’t need to tell it to us in a cutscene. The mechanics of the section tell the story far better than acting and animation alone ever could.
And if you’re interested in learning about how lethal a sword could be, I suggest watching Sellsword Art’s video on the subject. Even they were surprised by the results, and the make a living practicing fencing.
