Playing these Mafia games has impressed upon me, more than just about anything else, just how casual racism and discrimination was baked into the culture of the United States for so long that people just stopped recognizing it. Though the awareness of it did exist, it was mostly on the fringes of society.
We certainly have a long way to go in the process of pushing it out, but the amount of progress we’ve made in recent years on this front is extraordinary.
It’s heartwarming to think about. Progress may be slower than we like. Nonetheless, it is there despite the powerful working to stamp it out.
