The Dark Duo – Directive 8020 – Part 2-2

We have a viable plan for attacking whatever creature is on board with us. Now, it’s time to fight back.

Streamed on my Twitch.
Acharky can also be found on Twitch.

I’m still not sure why Supermassive chose to implement the flash forward sequences for this story, especially since they often involve characters who are in dangerous or threatening situations in “Present Time”. Even though Cernan, Anders, and Cooper are all under attack by the monster stalking the crew, we know that they’re safe because they all have to be alive in the future. Otherwise, that creates a continuity error.

If we were watching a movie, this wouldn’t be an issue, but we’re playing a video game: One where a major mechanic involves whether or not each member of the crew lives or dies. Every decision we make is weighed against the consequences that it could hold for our cast in the future. When that future is necessarily locked in, those stakes are no longer factored in. Part of why Acharky chose to give Cooper the gun was the knowledge that she would have it 22 hours later, no matter what.

Most of Supermassive’s creative output have been games like this. They’re supposed to be the masters of these schlocky horror games, so I would expect them to know this.

It makes me wonder why they went ahead with flash forwards anyway.
