The Dark Duo – Directive 8020 – Part 2-3

It’s now clear what kind of threat we’re dealing with. The question is whether or not we can survive it.

Streamed on my Twitch.
Acharky can also be found on Twitch.

Between the stealth sections, the e-mails, and the chemical puzzle (which doesn’t show up ever again from this point forward), it almost feels like Supermassive isn’t confident that their in-house style is “good enough” to carry a game from start to finish. It’s odd to see, because they’ve made so many games of this type and most of them have been able to stand on the strength of player decision making alone.

In future episodes, I will say that “This video game needed less gameplay” echoing Pat from PatStaresAt, but I don’t like that in retrospect because it carries an unspoken implication that the simple act of making choices isn’t “gameplay”. If I could rephrase it, I would say that the game would’ve been stronger had to maintained its focus on the “butterfly effect” mechanics over trying to shoehorn in rudimentary, and frankly boring, stealth mechanics that take away from the experience.

Directive 8020 is a lesser game for their inclusion.
