Once the monsters start causing major trouble for our crew, the e-mails are another in a long list of new additions to the game that kill pacing and detract from the overall experience. It’s strange to be in a tense, life-or-death situation, and spend several minutes texting with people who are also in danger. Most of the conversations don’t give us any new insight into our cast, mostly severing as superfluous side chat.

I wouldn’t throw them away, but I would’ve been far more sparring in their use. I wouldn’t expect a co-worker to text me the way these people text each other.
