It’s honestly endearing the way Edward fumbles and stumbles his way into impersonating Duncan Walpole and winning the trust of the Templars, including a very fun use of optional objectives to remind us why he’s here. The fact that we can pickpocket them all as they’re in the middle of hatching their grand master plan is just a fun little detail that I can’t help but smile at it.
This also means that Edward was a self-trained “Assassin”, since he improvised all of those moves and maneuvers on the fly while trying to remain in character.
Another story could easily come from a timeline where Edward was content with his small payment and continued as a Templar, but that’s not the kind of man he is. Edward doesn’t just want a steady profit, he wants riches. Of course that means he was going to eventually double-cross them in the pursuit of more.
