Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – Part 5-3
We’ve been stranded on a desert island with a mad pirate captain that wants us dead. Worse, he’s armed and dangerous.
But then again, we are too.

We’ve been playing Black Flag for over nine hours at this point, and it’s astounding that we’re only now truly starting to undertake the quest for the Observatory that Edward’s supposedly been looking for this whole time.
Also keep in mind that for a typical playthrough, this will be further buttressed by about an additional twenty or so hours of doing Ubisoft open world filler, so most players will spent about thirty hours before the game’s actual plot truly gets underway.
I came in praising Edward for being an interesting protagonist, largely because he spends most of the game outside the conflict between Templars and Assassins. I think there’s something both to that and how charismatic the character is, but I also think in retrospect they could’ve done more to weave the conflict into the main narrative so that we’re still engaged with it even if we aren’t part of it. The pieces are there, but not quite in the right position.
