Though the overall content of the scene remains largely the same, having Kim present adds so much to it that we just don’t experience in our run, since he’s currently on the way to process Miss Oranje Disco Dancer.
In the typical comedy duo relationship, Kim plays the role of the straight man while we as Harry take the role of the funny man. His job, narratively, is to highlight and contrast the absurd behavior that our character is exhibiting with his own more modest presence. Normally, that’s a comedic role, but it can also be used here to give both our character and the player a rock we can use to weather the storm when the tone shifts into something more somber or dramatic. No matter what is happening, Kim can be counted on to keep his composure and facilitate a reasonable course of action.
Without him to provide comfort to Harry as he discovers his lost car, the more depressing tone is better capable of carrying through the scene and permeating the very atmosphere. It makes the player miss him all the more.
