What I find most interesting is that Enzo doesn’t chose to leave the life with Isabella until after he assassinates the Baron and Don Spadaro. To me, that signals that while he knew he probably should leave immediately, he couldn’t bring himself to let go, despite both Luca and Isabella’s warnings. Not only did he want to avenge Luca’s death, but also those who lost their lives in the mines. Perhaps at one point he would have had the self-control to see sense, but that’s long been snuffed out in the few scant years he’s worked in organized crime.
And yet, this marks another turning point. It was easy for Enzo to remain aligned with Don Torrisi because they had mutual enemies in the Spadaro family. Even the hit on Spadaro, given what happened, was easy to accept because Enzo had his own reasons separate from the Don’s. Now, with him gone, the glue tying him to the family goes with it.
Next time, we’ll see how that leads to a long and happy life.
