Mafia: The Old Country – Part 4-1
I think I made a mistake in the last recording session. We’re at the point where Enzo is going to escape from organized crime, and find a new life for himself and Isabella in America. There can’t be more than 15 minutes of gameplay left.
Ignore the length of this episode.

If you’re curious about what song lives rent-free in my head, it’s Everything Burns. Final Fantasy XIV players are intimately familiar with it at this point, and it’s such a bop.
Going back to the game though, this is a poster child for how to correctly execute an ending. All of the little details are placed exactly where they need to be to sell the mood and the themes. The mountain’s eruption perfectly reflects Don Torrisi’s rage and greed boiling over, having simmered over the course of the game. Enzo was taken to the mines he came from, that he was set to own if he stayed loyal, to reflect both how much the kind of man Don Torrisi wanted to transform him into, and how far he’s come in both his rise and descent. The letter to Isabelle perfectly foreshadows our hero’s inevitable fate.
It’s Storytelling 101, but so often it is the basics that are easiest to get wrong. Writing and set piece design are hard, and it’s worth pointing out when it’s done well.
