The dangers on display here in First Light, THEIA’s mistakes going undetected because no one thought to audit or validate them, are unfortunately a very real danger in our society with LLMs and so-called “gen AI.” In that sense, the game almost serves as a cautionary tale on what happens when we allow machines to take over and do all of the thinking for us.
It will not destroy the world. It will not act with malice. However, it will enable the powerful to act with greater stupidity, and ruin countless lives along the way.
Fortunately, like in First Light, we still have time to do something about it.
