007 First Light – Part 5-1
We can prove that Sir Rich British Guy is up to no good, but it turns out he’s got friends in high places.
That means if we want to stop him, we need to go rogue.

I love the way this sequence closes the loop on the relationship between Bond and Greenway. Greenway starts off as the mentor, bringing Bond into the life of spycraft and espionage. He’s harsh, but not unfair. A life in the shadows has rendered him cold and stoic.
In the process of working with Bond, and in finding the truth behind 009, the ice starts to melt. Bond reminds him of the humanity that he once believed me had lost, kindling the flames in his soul. Taking the lesson, and his skills, to heart, he acts on his own. Bond, in turn, supporting Greenway in pursuit of justice. And though that pursuit cost Greenway his life, he died happy, truly living for the first time in a long time.
Coming full circle, Bond is now acting on his own, doing what he feels is right, following his fallen mentor’s example. It’s a beautiful capstone to their arc, and fitting for the game’s finale. Doubly so because it snugly fits in with the other theme regarding “the human element” vs “machine-generated spycraft”.
It shows how much IO has grown in this department over their work on the Hitman series.
