Mafia 3: Definitive Edition – Part 6-2

With all his rackets dealt with, we have only to take out the Grand Wizard himself. And while we’re at it, we can pontificate about how stupid it is to call yourself the “Grand Wizard” unironically.

Now that I’ve gotten all of the incredulity I have for the Nazis hiding in America out of my system, let us talk instead about how cool it is that the game let’s us kill someone whose voice we are likely to have heard on the radio. Obviously, the radio has been silent for our run because I can’t handle the amount of noise while on stream. However, most players will have idly heard Remy talk over the air waves.

And when you have in-universe voices like that on in-game radio, it can be often easy to forget that those are characters than exist in the same world that our protagonist lives in. It is like how the man on the radio you listen to while you’re driving is a real person, but so divorced from your day-to-day life that he might as well not exist in your orbit.

In some examples, like Three Dog in Fallout 3, that can be a moment of awe or wonder, much like how a person in real life would react if they met a celebrity in person.

Instead, here it’s almost the exact opposite. This man who seemed untouchable due to the distance produced by the radio is now a tangible person, who can be interacted with (and, in this case, eliminated).
