No matter what anyone might have to say about Mafia 3, one thing it makes clear time and time again is that there is intent behind every choice that Hangar 13 made in constructing it. Specifically, they knew what they were doing in setting this game in the 1960s, at the high of the Civil Rights Movement.

We’re always had aware that Lincoln Clay and his closest associates are second-class citizens by the standards of the time, but here it is made especially, uncomfortably clear.

If anything, the fact that we get to kill so many of the big name racists in New Bordeaux serves as a reprieve from that uncomfortable tension.
