Zero Parades For Dead Spies – Part 5-3
With some time left until we can recruit our Fool, we have another possible recruit we can look into.
Streamed on my Twitch.
You can find Andre on his Twitch channel.
In my personal run of Zero Parades, before we did it for stream, a lot of these beats were spaced out between working on other objectives or just getting a sense for the current state of the world. There was breathing room between each of them.
With Andre here, and experiencing it all in the span of a single recording session, I’m left a taken aback with the sheer, unrelenting sense of malaise and depression that surrounds this particular chunk of the game. With seemingly every step, we’re confronted with the reality that getting involved with Hershel Wilks irreparably damaged all of the lives of the Whole Sick Crew. And worse, the only reason we’re here and ready to repair the damage is that we’re getting them ready to put themselves in danger for us once more.
As Shadowplay says, “Refurbish the tool so that it can be reused.”
It stands in such stark contrast with Harrier DuBois from (once again) Disco Elysium. While he’s a disaster in his own right, and has inflicted his fair share of harm, most playthroughs of Disco will involve grappling with that past and using it as a springboard to do better and be better. Hershel, by contrast, feels more callous and cruel, and I don’t know if that was intentional.
It doesn’t sit right with me either way.
